SOY tabling on MLK's 90th Birthday

On this 90th anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther King Jr. it felt good to have our SOY table at LBJ/LASA HS during their combined lunch period today. Because of this anniversary, our reflection question asked students to offer their thoughts on what we can do now to carry on the movement that MLK inspired. Pictured here are some of their astute responses.

The Penny Poll results showed a priority for the Education category, which received 30% of the penny vote, followed by 26% for Health Care, 16% for the Environment, 12% for Humanitarian Aid, 10% for the Military and 6% for NASA.

On our Peace Wheel, we added "The Sunrise Movement," which is a nonviolent, youth-led linkage of economic justice with climate justice, calling for a Green New Deal to create jobs in sustainable energy production and to divest from fossil fuels around the world. I didn't notice any students recognizing this on the Peace Wheel, but I hope the movement will gain traction among this new generation. I feel certain that MLK would be supportive all the way. Thanks, Jaguars, for your participation today!
